Three clients
HVAC shop
An HVAC shop, two owners' worth of work, one QuickBooks file. When I went through the year, the owner had paid himself more than the company had earned on paper, which would have turned part of it into a taxable capital gain. We booked it as a shareholder loan instead, cleaned the personal purchases out of the P&L, and he now gets a one-page report on the second Saturday of every month.
Restoration contractor
A restoration contractor doing about $1.5M a year with a bank feed nobody had touched since January. Roughly $150K had gone out through Zelle, ATM withdrawals, and PayPal with no record of who got it, which at tax time is a $30K problem. Three weeks later every dollar had a name, and the owner found out the business was losing money while $300K to $500K in finished work sat uncollected.
Electrical contractor
An electrical contractor with the best year in company history and no cash. The books said profit; the bank said no. Once the receivables were reconciled, $100K was outstanding, $40K of it from one customer, and the two partners had paid themselves unevenly for eight months without knowing it. We fixed the owner draws, restructured payroll, and gave them a monthly review so the next surprise is a small one.
Limits
